Wonderful WLGC News!
Safety First, Last and Always
Dear West Liberty Gun Club Members:
I have some wonderful news to share!
On Tuesday, May 15, I along with VP Bruce Guither, Treasurer Al Wicks, and Building Committee rep Bill Besgrove attended a board meeting of the Wilton Rifle Club. Several of our own members who also serve on the WRC board were in attendance, including Ray Dietrich and Warren Bishop.
The Wilton Rifle Club has existed in a state of “limbo” for many years since losing their own outdoor range. Due to a generous benefactor, they have been maintaining a sizable financial account. They have long had a desire to invest that money in a project that would benefit the shooting sports. You will recall that they made a very generous contribution ($10,000) last year in furtherance of our indoor range project.
At first, I was not sure why we had been invited to their meeting. Much to my surprise, their Board of Directors voted unanimously to disband their organization and turn their entire treasury over to the West Liberty Gun Club, for the expressed purpose of moving our indoor range project forward. Including the previous donation cited above, this gift totals roughly $60,000! It is by far the largest single donation received to date for the reconstruction of the indoor range.
The only stipulation placed on this generous donation is that the money be used only to further the cause of getting the indoor range completed and “open for business.” Since getting the range going is the number one priority for all of us, I was eager and happy to assure our friends from the Wilton club that these funds would be used exclusively for that purpose. They understand that this includes the clubhouse portion of the project.
This remarkable gift allows us to make a great leap forward in planning and constructing the indoor range. Everyone understands that it is not enough to finish the range, but it brings us much closer to the ribbon-cutting ceremony!
An added benefit to this gift is that it may make us eligible for some “sharing” grants, where we would have to provide club funding to match or supplement funding which is required for some grants. In this way, the donation could grow.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our friends at the former Wilton Rifle Club! If you know any members of WRC, please extend to them a hearty THANK YOU for their generosity.
Let me speak for our entire organization when I say THANK YOU to our good friends from WRC: President Bob Wendlandt, Secretary Clyde Evans, Warren Bishop, Ray Dietrich, Larry Lichtenwald, Terry McFadon, and several others whose names I have forgotten. It is our greatest hope to be able to be able to welcome all to a first-rate indoor shooting facility in the near future, and your generosity takes us much closer to that day.
Again, many thanks to all who have made this possible!
